Dear Ellen...wow, do I have my work cut out for me! I purchased the book and finished it last night before heading to bed. So much of what you wrote in the intro resonated with me. I am a research analyst for a large law enforcement organization and regularly feel the calling to find my actual career. I, too, am called to alternative forms of healing and would love to learn reflexology or some other form of healing. And, I have always dreamed of writing a book! Like you, Feng Shui, learning it and practicing, has tugged at me for the last ten years. I am a divorce mom of five and have largely raised my children alone. My two oldest are out on their own with new careers after graduating college and #3 son just graduated too. My only daughter is beginning her second year of nursing school and the baby (a t 6') is a HS sophomore and QB of the varsity football team. After twelve years at my job, I have hit this stonewall. I never made enough for us to really enjoy life (I dont believe we ever took a real vacation) but took great pride on getting us out of subsidized housing and into a home of our own in 2004. The past year with new civilian supervisor who is borderline psychotic, put me over the edge. So, here I sit examining life and wanting to conceive - believe and receive. I was using the wrong door as my point of reference. My home is a ranch - a little square box I'm told until 2000. Then a three season family room and two car garage were added. So there are TWO front doors facing the street (that will soon be a great shade of red) and we always use the door to the addition. I was using that room as my starting point - until today, of course! The book is wonderful, Ellen. You are a great writer, both funny and engaging, but able to make this topic so understandable. You give people like me (at 53) hope that there is always time to find the right path...

I'm so glad I caught Ellen's guest spot on your show this morning. The last time I heard her on the show was sometime in early June. She was talking about that day being the day you should ask the Universe for something you want because that was the best day to do it. Apparently the Universe was listening and taking calls that day or something. Anyhow, on a whim, I asked the Universe for a house - something small with a nice backyard for my husband and son to run around in. And wouldn't you know it? Two weeks later we were approved for a mortgage, a nd we're closing on our first home at the end of the month.

So when I heard about the Number 8, I called my husband and asked…well no…ordered him to buy some red paper and a gold sharpie, write an infinity symbol on the paper, fold it up and place it in my wooden piggybank with the carved monkey's that play "The Entertainer" and put it on the computer desk in our bedroom as close to the corner as possible. Simple instructions, right? Easy enough. The one thing I forgot was to explain why I needed him to do this bizarre thing as soon as possible. When he asked why he needed to drop everything and haul ass to Staples and find a gold sharpie, I believe my reply went something like "Because the Universe said there's a good chance we won't have to pay closing costs because the seller concessions will cover it. Duh!" He quietly hung up the phone after that. Can't imagine why. It's not like I was asking him to nail a puppy to the wall.

What can I say? I love Ellen, and I love the energy and knowledge she brings to the show. She is an absolutely fascinating person, and I'm so glad she's a regular guest. Sure, she makes me seem a little insane when I do as she instructs. I prefer to think of it as making me more endearing to my friends and family.
